Ambler Substation Rehabilitation | Philadelphia, pa

Meliora is currently a sub-consultant to HNTB to rehabilitate the Ambler Substation. This essential electrical facility provides power to SEPTA’s regional rail network on the Lansdale Line. Located in Ambler, the substation was constructed circa 1931 and has been in continuous operation ever since. The substation was designed for two transformers, but only one was originally installed.

The substation will be updated to accommodate the second transformer and to update the switchgear. Rehabilitation of the substation will allow SEPTA to ensure that the regional rail network continues to provide reliable, high-quality transportation in the Philadelphia metropolitan area for many years to come.

Meliora is providing a structural assessment of the existing steel gantries, design build documents for foundations for new switchgear and transformers, steel design for extension of gantry frames, fall protection for gantries and transformers and secondary oil containment for transformers.
