Ash Park

Master Plan | Coatesville, PA

The largest of Coatesville’s parks at 9.3 acres, Ash Park was once the social hub of the community but fell into disrepair over the years due to maintenance and stormwater issues. In 2018, with preliminary funding in hand, the park was targeted for a master plan that would consider environmental, maintenance, and community amenity factors holistically.

The plan was prepared by Natural Lands with assistance from several consultants, including Meliora specific to stormwater and green infrastructure recommendations. Our tasks involved reviewing Coatesville’s proposed MS4 Plan; analysis of existing drainage conditions, and identifying and providing concepts for potential stormwater and drainage improvements for integration with the master plan.

The master plan addresses stormwater issues, provides a cooling replacement for the closed pool, and includes many nature elements. A sledding hill, a native wildflower meadow, additional shade trees, a misting station and splash pad, an improved (and relocated) playground, and a wetland to collect stormwater—complete with a boardwalk over it—are among the redesigned park’s features.
