In 2016, Meliora led the development of an ordinance-based low impact development (LID) manual and LID certification system for protecting and restoring the water quality of Lake George, the 32-mile long flagship lake of the Adirondacks. The manual provides municipalities, local communities, property owners, officials, and developers the tools to implement practices that protect and improve water quality. The certification system is one of the first of its kind and intended to enhance development standards and landscapes surrounding the lake and within the Adirondacks.

Meliora has supported the implementation of the LID program on both a project and municipal basis. In 2020, we facilitated a 10-meeting virtual technical workshop process to update the stormwater and associated ordinances in Queensbury Township. The Town of Lake George recently adopted the guidelines of the LID process for certain zoning districts, and we provided technical review of the land development projects related to stormwater and low impact development. We have also provided similar review for projects in the Town of Bolton.
